New Web Site Dedicated to Making Hydropower Easily Understood
The Foundation for Water and Energy Education (FWEE) has launched a new web site with a simple mission: give teachers, students, opinion leaders, and the public balanced, reliable information about the use of hydropower in the Northwest. Visit www.fwee.org
Said Sheila Corson, FWEE Board President and Okanogan PUD Public Relations Coordinator, “Everyone is talking about climate change and achieving goals for carbon-free, renewable energy. Because hydropower provides over 80% of the Northwest’s renewable energy, it’s no surprise people have a renewed interest in this low cost, reliable energy resource that has served us for decades.”
The web site is chock full of information, including:
- Tours showing how hydropower is generated and how fish migrate past dams.
- Videos, print materials and graphics that distill complex ideas and information down into understandable terms.
- A map and directory of hydropower projects throughout the Northwest.
- Curriculum, kits, activity books, and teacher training for K-12 educators.
“We know the thirst for this knowledge is higher than ever,” said Corson. “In the last year, over 150 teachers have participated in one of our trainings and received a kit to use with students in their classroom. We can’t keep up with demand. We are proud to offer these resources to classrooms across the Northwest.”
