Libby Dam hosts Hydropower Educator Workshop
20 hydropower educators joined with area teachers at Libby Dam to network and exchange best practices to effectively teach principles of electricity, generation of hydropower and environmental stewardship. “It’s an interesting time to be teaching about hydropower because the story is evolving,” said FWEE Executive Director Andy Dunau. “In this century hydropower has emerged as the base load to achieve 100% renewable power generation goals.”
Educators exchanged new ways to explain how this low cost, reliable and renewable resource is uniquely available in the Northwest. In addition to fisheries and other environmental needs, stewardship outreach now includes hydropower’s role in dancing with other renewables such as wind and solar to create the possibility of a carbon free power generation future.
