Final turbine runner installed at Box Canyon Dam

Andritz Hydro, the contractor for the turbine/generator upgrade lowered the fourth and final turbine runner into the turbine pit on September 15th. Upgrade of this final turbine/generator unit is scheduled for completion in December.

Each of the three previously completed units is performing above production expectations. Box Canyon’s generation capacity will increase from 76 to 90 megawatts when all four new units are operating.

In addition to the turbine/generator upgrades, the entire protection system including relays, governors, breakers, and control systems, was modernized to meet federal requirements and make the hydro plant robust and able to last another 50 years.
