Little Falls, completed in 1910, increased the company's hydroelectric capacity by 50 percent at the time.
This project, the furthest downstream on the Spokane River, is located 29 miles upstream from the confluence of the Columbia River (Lake Roosevelt) and Spokane River.
Unlike previous projects, this hydro project was designed and constructed entirely by the company's own engineering department. With brass details and elegant fixtures, Little Falls was truly a showpiece.
Little Falls, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the only hydro project on Avista's system that is directly authorized by the U.S. Congress, in an act passed in 1905.
